Significance: This one applies to number 6. He is conflicted because he is forbidden to eat an elephant by his clan but he is starving to death and he doesn't know when he may find food again. I am not a religious person but if I was I don't know if I could make that kind of choice.
Character Analysis: Dut. I believe that Dut is a Dinka boy and that would probably mean that he was from the same religion as Achak. So is this is true I am wondering why he didn't have the same apprehension as Achak.
Question: How did those guys take down an Elephant with out an elephant gun?
Quote 2: Mawien "With the same bullet both men will die. This was disappointing to both Deng and I" 155
Significance: This one applies to number 2. The journey for these boys who were younger than me and had never even heard of the world outside their own villages. They had to cross a continent and they didn't know what to do if they got hurt or if they got lost.
Character Judgement: Mawien. I don't like him because he is trying to convince these boys to join the child soldiers army(Red Army). this I think is devious and deceitful.
Question: Why are they called the Red Army when that is what the Russians were called in WWII?
Quote #1: Response/Comment: I think also that hunger and survival had taken over his senses so much that he probably wasn't double-thinking eating. The other boys just dug in, and after not eating for so long, he was probably happy no matter what the circumstances.
ReplyDeleteQuestion #1: Answer: I am not sure what an elephant gun is. However, I think they probably just shot it several times, and their will to eat was probably ruling over their senses.
Quote #2: I think that it is really sad how they know about guns, and have seen so much violence at such a young age, as well. I think that they have learned a lot about survival, though, which could be a good or a bad thing.
Question #2: I think that the Red Army is probably just a translated version, and it might just be a nickname. I think it was probably a coincidence, but it might be on purpose.
Quote 1: I don't really understand this quote because i don't get why he said the elephant is sacred.
ReplyDeletequestion 1: The boys didn't take down the elephant, the rebels did, and they had guns that it only took like 3 bullets to kill the elephant.
Quote 2: I think it is sad and strange that 1 bullet can kill two people. and i think this quote is really sad.
Question 2: I don't really have an answer to that question, because i don't think it said so in the book. maybe it is a code name.
